I created this sculptural (or 3-D ) illustration for Golf Digest in 1992. I designed it as an inside 2 page spread with room for text and then moved the golfer closer to the hole to take the cover shot. They also ended up making a poster of the image as a promotional piece.

I worked with a photographer named Jeff Hieges. He shot many of my 3-D works. In this case, since he smoked and I didn't, he blew cigarette smoke through the tube that ran through the ears and I clicked the shutter. (Remember, this was 1992 and Photoshop wasn't the program it is today) It took a few shots to get the smoke just right and he ended up quite dizzy.

A few years later I was in a pub in England and came across this pinball machine. I'm pretty sure the guy who designed this illustration had seen the cover of Golf Digest. What do you think?
